JQT Vancouver’s Letter of Support - No Silence on Race

2020.07.13 - Pronounced “J-cutie”, JQT Vancouver is a Jewish Queer and Trans group dedicated to creating connections and seeking space to celebrate our intersectional identities as Jews of all ages, diverse sexual orientations, as well as gender and sex identities, by queering Jewish space and Jewifying queer space in Vancouver, BC.

With gratitude, JQT Vancouver operates on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh.

JQT Vancouver acknowledges that racism and internalized racism are prevalent in our families, friendships, synagogues, centres, and neighbourhoods. As such, JQT invites our non-Black Jewish community, especially those experiencing white privilege, to dialogue on dissolving racism. Further, JQT calls on our non-Jews of Colour (JOC) community to dialogue on dissolving the barriers that prevent true inclusion, diversity, and accessibility in the Jewish community.

JQT Vancouver endorses and commits to acting upon the 9 pillars outlined in No Silence on Race to create anti-racist, inclusive, and equitable space for people of colour in our community.

Examples of JQT’s action items include, but are not limited to:

- Standing with Indigenous communities in their determination for sovereignty

- Building meaningful relationships by amplifying the voices of Indigenous queer trans folx

- Engaging in Indigenous educational opportunities

- Amplifying the voices of Black Jews and JOC queer trans folx

- Supporting the local movement to engage in JOC dialogue on the west coast

- Advocating for true listening on inclusion, diversity, and accessibility in our Jewish community

- Initiating and participating in cross-cultural dialogue with other minority queer groups

In solidarity,

JQT Vancouver
