Our Vision: We want to create a growing and thriving community for all 2SLGBTQIA+ Jews, where we celebrate our various identities and their intersections.
Our Mission: Through education, dialogue, art, cultural celebration, and partnerships, we are ‘queering’ Jewish spaces and ‘Jew-ifying’ queer spaces to make them more inclusive.

JQT Origin Story

JQT Vancouver has its roots in the grassroots committee of Jewish LGBTQ2SIA+ community representatives and Jewish organizations that came together to celebrate the inaugural community-wide Jewish Pride initiative of July 2018. This was the Shabbat Dinner with Pride Colours and the Jewish Community Tent at Pride Sunset Beach Festival. The group continued to meet, recognizing that there is a need to have events for LGBTQ2SIA+ Jews all year round, not just during Pride week, and in November 2018, we became ‘JQT Vancouver’.

Since then, we have operated as a conglomeration of volunteers known as the JQT Dream Team. After three years of organizing monthly events and exploring new partnerships with local and international Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, we decided to embark on becoming a non-profit organization and officially incorporated as the Jewish Queer Trans Folx of Vancouver Society (DBA ‘JQT Vancouver’) in August 2020.

We thank the Jewish LGBTQ2SIA+ groups and individuals who have come before us advocating for inclusion, diversity and accessibility in Vancouver’s Jewish community and paved the path for JQT to thrive today.

During the pandemic, JQT online programming reached far beyond the city limits of Vancouver and to our surprise, we found out that JQT is - to the best of our knowledge - one of only two Canadian-grown Jewish LGBTQ2SIA+ non-profits currently operating in Canada.
