Mx.Enigma (She/They/Queen)

Mx.Enigma is a Queer Mizrahi mixed media artist in NYC. They graduated from Brooklyn College in 2017 with a B.A in Media/Gender Studies. Their work focuses on the intersections of queerness, American culture & public's perceptions. Their work is featured in over 40 galleries in NYC including MOMA, Bronx Museum, Tribeca Film Festival, HBO & BRIC media. They are an alum of the BCI residency in July 2017 & Fall 2019 Artist in Residence at Judson Memorial Church.

In 2020 they’ve worked with NYPL on a play production of “L’Chaim 2 Dykes” on Queer Ex-Hasidic Women who are struggling with their custody battles.

‘Oppression Among The Stars’ is an arduous process of one egalitarian Mizrahi kin, who grew up in orthodox Ashkenazi space, and struggling to find community, carve out connections, ties to their heritage in a queer affirming way, and documenting the erasure of their ethnicity; Temani Ebonix, olive tan skin colour, and racial past and wisdom, that has been whitewashed by Ashkenormativity.

I’ve never felt heard, belonged, had mentors to look up to, and it was restorative justice, to be able to record the traumas I’ve faced, in Jewish day schools, white spaces, and living in the states as an MIA “Mizrahi In America”.
