‘Oppression Among The Stars’ is an arduous process of one egalitarian Mizrahi kin, who grew up in orthodox Ashkenazi space, and struggling to find community, carve out connections, ties to their heritage in a queer affirming way, and documenting the erasure of their ethnicity; Temani Ebonix, olive tan skin colour, and racial past and wisdom, that has been whitewashed by Ashkenormativity.
I’ve never felt heard, belonged, had mentors to look up to, and it was restorative justice, to be able to record the traumas I’ve faced, in Jewish day schools, white spaces, and living in the states as an MIA “Mizrahi In America”.
